Lifeguards Propose $22 Living Wage to Parks and Recreation Board Finance Committee

Today two Barton Springs lifeguards, Scott Cobb and Sofia Peña, spoke at the Parks and Recreation Board's Finance Committee and urged them to support raising the Austin Living Wage from $15 to $22 an hour, as well as other changes to hire enough staff to end the lifeguard shortage and fully open all City of Austin pools. The committee passed a resolution supporting the $22 an hour pay rate and will send that resolution to the full PARD Board for them to consider next Monday. The Finance Committee will also send the resolution to city council members, who will be taking up a resolution from CM Ellis Thursday.
